HDP Youth Council members Akdağ and Ertaş arrested

DİYARBAKIR - HDP officials Sevim Akdağ and Hülya Ertaş who were taken into custody during an operation against the HDP Youth Council have been sent to prison.

 
On 26 January, the Turkish police stormed homes in six provinces and arrested at least eight people as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office against the Youth Council of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).
 
Among the people taken into custody were Sevim Akdağ from the Executive Commission of the HDP and former member Hülya Ertaş. The two women were arrested on charges of "running a terrorist organization". The other people detained included party council’s member Narin Dönmez, former party council’s member Nurullah Özgün as well as Cengiz Fidan, Rabia Şevin Sarıbulak, Ömer Almaç and Ramazan Toktaşer from the youth council.
 
Part of the indictment against the HDP Youth Council relied on tapped telephone calls that are said to have taken place during the 2nd Congress of the HDP Youth Council in Diyarbakır on 25 November 2018.
